Severomuisky bypass

Severomuisky bypass - a section of the Baikal-Amur Railway , a unique engineering structure. It was built as a temporary (for the period of construction of the Severomuisk tunnel ) bypass route through the Severomuisk ridge . It is currently maintained in working condition as a backup section of BAM. It is considered one of the most beautiful sections of the highway.

History

The construction of the bypass began in August 1982 . The construction of the Severomuisk tunnel was already actively underway, but it was assumed that it would be put into operation in 1986-1987. In order to avoid non-working sections of the highway, a temporary detour was constructed by March 1983 from the Angarakan station to the Kazankan station with a length of 24.6 km to allow goods to pass through. This bypass was laid almost along the shortest route, but the payment for it was exceeding the permissible slope standards: in some sections of the bypass, the slope reached 40 m / km, as a result of which freight trains were uncoupled into several parts: the locomotive transported only a few wagons. Passenger traffic on the bypass for safety reasons was generally prohibited: from the Angarakan station to the Kazankan station, passengers were transported on shift along the road paved next to the bypass. Now the rails from this detour have been removed, but the embankment and primer have been preserved almost over the entire extent.

It soon became clear that the construction of the Severomuisk tunnel could not be completed on time, moreover, it would be delayed indefinitely. Therefore, in November 1985, the construction of a new bypass began (its length is 64 km, slope up to 18 m / km), which ended in 1989 . On this bypass freight and passenger traffic was allowed, but the speed of trains did not exceed 20 km / h. This bypass is still functioning at present, however, since the launch of the Severomuisk tunnel, traffic along it has been stopped, with the exception of the Taksimo - Novoyuoyan working train, which runs twice a day. The Severomuisk bypass is reserved for unloading the main BAM path and to maintain the operation of the main line in the event of any accident in the tunnel.

Scheme of the Severomuisk bypass

Bypass begins in a wide hollow formed at the confluence of Itykit into Angarakan . In this place the western portal of the Severomuisk tunnel is located and the village of Tunnel was located, in which the builders of the tunnel lived. The tunnel (despite the protests of the residents) [1] was demolished in 2004, instead of it is now a flat platform. Residents of the village were resettled in Severomuisk .

The bypass crosses the lower course of Itykit across the bridge, after the bridge, at the 11th kilometer of the bypass, Osipnaya station and the village of Razliv are located. The village of Razliv was the only settlement on the Severomuisky bypass, had its mail and shop. The village is settled and demolished. In the winter of 2004-2005, he no longer had a water supply or heating [2] . Residents of the village were resettled in Severomuisk .

Further, the road makes a loop, crossing Angarakan twice and on the 16th kilometer of the highway goes to the famous Devil's Bridge - a semicircular bridge 35 meters high, located on two-tier supports over the Itykit River.

Devil's Bridge

After 2 km, a two-kilometer loop tunnel begins, inside which the road rises and turns around 180 degrees: the portals of the tunnel are almost one above the other. After another bridge over Itykit, the road almost overcomes the ascent to the pass and runs almost parallel to the old detour. Soon after the dimly pronounced saddle of the pass, the station is Pass (27 km). Below the station, the Okusikan River flows through two transit lakes.

On the eastern slope of the pass, the road makes, gradually descending, three huge loops, below which at the 49th km Goryachy Klyuch station is located. Further, after the bridge over Okusikan, another (shorter loop) tunnel begins (54th km), after which the hollow begins, in which a rather large village of Severomuisk is located at the eastern portal of the Severomuisk tunnel.

At the 62nd kilometer, the bypass is connected with the main course of the BAM, and after two kilometers the bypass is finally completed at the Kazankan station .
