Biography
The son of the poet Attilio Bertolucci and the younger brother of Bernardo Bertolucci . He began his work in the cinema as an assistant to the latter and producer on the film Spider Strategy (1970). He took part as a co-co-founder in the creation of the medium-length collective film “The poor die before” (1971). Having made his debut as a director of feature films with the television movie “Go and Come” (1972), he shot on television the documentary “The ABCs of Cinema” (1975) and the feature film “If There Is No Happiness” (1976).
One of the authors of the script of the historical epic " Twentieth Century " (1976) Bernardo Bertolucci. In a big movie, his debut took place when, based on a play in soliloquies co-written by him with Roberto Benigni and with the participation of the latter, he independently directed the film “ Berlinguer , I Love You” (1977), a political comedy about the infantile lumpen, which had a significant resonance.
Bertolucci confirmed his maturity as a director with subsequent works - “Lost Things” (1979) and “Secrets, Secrets” (1984), “Strange Life” (1987), “Camels” (1988), “Love of Love” (1989), the third short story in the movie Especially on Sundays (1991). In 1986 he shot the film “The Whole Benigny” with the participation of his friend and like-minded person. He worked on television - “Dirty linen” (1980; an investigation film under the patronage of the Italian Communist Party ), “Internal Effects” (1983), “How and Why” (1987), “Life as a Game — 2” (1992). All these years he has been an active producer.
Giuseppe Bertolucci passed away on June 16, 2012 in Dizo , Italy .
