Biography
The beginning of his life’s journey is reflected in a note found in the diapers of a child in a basket left at the door of the Ulala baby’s house: “Chepokov Nikolay Anatolyevich, Kumandin , was born on January 30, 1961. ” Then he was brought up in orphanages in Gorno-Altaysk , Kamen-on-Ob , the village of Kurlek. The first publications under the pseudonym "Tarakai" appeared in the newspaper "Star of Altai" and the anthology "Source" in the early 1990s. Art critics define Chepokov's style as “ethnographic primitivism” or “ethnoarchive”. According to Doctor of Art Criticism E. P. Matochkin : “Tarakai’s art is a free song about everything that he sees ... He is the heir to the nomadic world of Asia , the continuation of his ancient art traditions ...” [3] .
Wife and son live in Turochak .
He became one of the main characters in the four-part documentary film Dmitry Vasyukov "Happy People" Altai, released in December 2017.
Previously, I didn’t have my own home, wandering around Altai all the time, painting my paintings. Often, they paid the artist and shelter and food. During the filming of the film, it was shown how the artist was presented with a house in one of the villages of Altai, built specifically for him and taking into account his profession.
