The USA-234 satellite was launched under the FIA (Future Imagery Architecture) program consisting of launching a new generation of reconnaissance satellites, namely it is a radar satellite. According to the plan, the FIA radar satellite constellation should consist of four satellites. The first of them, USA-215 , was launched in 2010, USA-234 is the second, and two more satellites are scheduled to be launched in 2013.
