Biography
Before the war
A.I. Chernov was born on March 30, 1924 in the village of Balkashino, now Balkashino district, Akmola region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in a working class family. Russian. After graduating from the Leninogorsk (now Ridder ) school of factory training, he worked at the Belousovsky mine.
During the war
In August 1942 he was drafted into the Red Army. In the reserve artillery regiment received a specialty gunner. In the army since February 1943. As part of the 123rd artillery regiment, he participated in battles on the Kursk Bulge. Was injured. After the hospital, he served as a gunner of a 76-mm gun in the 313rd artillery regiment. In 1944 he was admitted to the CPSU (b) / CPSU. He distinguished himself in battles when crossing the Oder River.
On January 27, 1945, the 121st Infantry Division began forcing the Oder in the area of the Köben settlement (now Khobenia, north of the town of Szinawa, Poland). The calculation of the corporal guard Chernov, along with the assault battalion, was one of the first to cross the river. In a battle on a busy bridgehead, their gun was the only one directly supporting the infantry. Reflecting the enemy’s counterattack, Corporal Chernov directly burned two tanks, two armored personnel carriers, six vehicles, destroyed seven machine gun points and up to sixty enemy soldiers and officers. The battalion repelled all Germans' counterattacks and, until reinforcements arrived, held the bridgehead.
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of April 10, 1945, for the exemplary performance of command assignments and for the courage and heroism shown in battles with the Nazi invaders of the guard, Corporal Alexei Ivanovich was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 8826) )
After the war
After demobilization A. Chernov returned to the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk . In 1949 he graduated from the Talgar College of Agriculture. He worked in the transport office of the Altaysvinestroy trust as a mechanic, the head of preventive workshops, a car repair shop, and the chief engineer of the office. He died in 1989.
