History
March 4, 1889, by decree of the emperor and the Holy Synod , the Glazov Vicariate was created. In the report of the Synod, the need for the establishment of the Glazov Vicariate was justified by the vastness of the Vyatka diocese , as well as the multiplicity of "Mohammedans, pagans and schismatics living in this diocese." Glazovsky Vicar was determined to stay in the Trifonov Vyatka Monastery . After the establishment of the Glazov Vicariate, which became the 2nd Vicar of the Vyatka Diocese. Glazovsky bishop priest Victor (Ostrovidov) since 1926 stayed in Glazov [1] .
On May 14, 1935, Bishop Abraham (Dernov) was appointed ruling bishop of the independent Glazov diocese. By that time, the diocese had 28 operating churches, which amounted to about half the churches that existed in the Glazovsky district in early 1917. The cathedral was the Transfiguration Cathedral in Glazov. The Glazov diocese, in accordance with the principle of correlation between the diocesan division and the territorial-administrative division, imposed by secular authorities, was part of the Kirov Church District. February 5, 1937, according to the report of Archbishop Kiprian (Komarovsky) , by decree of Metropolitan Sergius and the Provisional Holy Synod, the Izhevsk and Glazov dioceses were removed from the authority of the Kirov bishop [2] .
On May 10, 1937, Archbishop Abraham was arrested and did not return to freedom, having died in 1939. At the end of 1943, the territory of the Glasgow diocese became part of the restored Izhevsk diocese [2] .
On December 25-26, 2013, by the decision of the Holy Synod, the diocese was revived by separating its territory from the Izhevsk region , and was included in the newly established Udmurt Metropolis [3] .
