Basic Information

M.P. Ozmidov

In 1874, the owner of the newspaper, K. V. Kartamyshev, sold the newspaper to M. P. Ozmidov . By this time, the newspaper had neither subscribers nor employees; a break in its publication was about two years. M.P. Ozmidov became the editor-publisher of the newspaper and resumed its publication in January 1875. In the very first years after the resumption of publication, the number of newspaper subscribers reached 5 thousand. Thanks to the involvement of a number of talented publicists, the newspaper constantly published interesting articles on geography, ethnography, statistics, history and economics. The newspaper had correspondents abroad. The newspaper’s editorial office had its branches in St. Petersburg , Moscow and Kiev , and a subscription to the newspaper was accepted in these cities.

The contents of the newspaper corresponded to the nationalist significance of the slogan “Russia for Russians” [3] and had an anti-Semitic orientation [4] . In views on Russian state life, the newspaper adjoined the Moscow Gazette .

Since 1897, after the death of M.P. Ozmidov, the publication of the newspaper was continued by his widow - Zinaida Konstantinovna (1843-1899), daughter of the famous lawyer K. A. Nevolin .
