Biography
Adolf Berman graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw . In 1926 he joined the left party Poalei Zion .
During World War II he was in the Warsaw Ghetto , where he became one of the organizers of the Anti-Fascist bloc . He was the editor-in-chief of the Der Ruf newspaper and worked for the Centos charity, which takes care of children in the Warsaw ghetto. As a member of the Anti-Fascist bloc and at the same time a member of the Polish underground organization Zhegot , Adolf Berman was responsible for relations with the Polish underground and organized escapes from the ghetto. After the liquidation of the Warsaw ghetto, Adolf Berman continued underground activities.
In January 1944, Adolf Berman became chairman of the Jewish branch of the Regional Council of the People’s . In 1945, he became deputy chairman, and then chairman of the Central Committee of Polish Jews . He held this position until 1949. In 1950, Adolf Berman moved to Israel. Adolf Berman testified in trials against Adolf Eichmann and Vera Gran , who collaborated with the Nazi authorities.
He was a deputy in the Knesset from the MAPAM party. In 1954, Adolf Berman joined the Communist Party of Israel .
