His novels are imbued with a kind of "geographical romance."
The largest historical novels are the California series: Cold, 1913, The Gray Dawn, 1915, and The Rose Dawn, 1920. Long Rifle, 1932, and Ranchero, 1933, were published. , the story of the adventures of a descendant of pioneers and heroes of liberation wars.
In an idealized historical past, Stuart glorifies America’s “heroic youth”, contrasting it with modern American reality. Geographical and historical romance is the idealization of the imperialist tendencies of American capitalism at the beginning of the 20th century.
