DescriptionSumatran otter is about 1.3 m long and weighs about 7 kg. Between the fingers with claws there are swimming membranes. The coat on the back is dark brown, on the belly a little lighter. The chin and upper lip are whitish. The surface around the nostrils of the nose and nasal septum are hairy [3] .
DistributionThe species distribution area covers the countries of Southeast Asia and has not yet been precisely determined. The otter lives in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Brunei, Sumatra and northern Borneo. It inhabits marshy forests, lower reaches of rivers, wetlands, mangroves, mountain streams above 300 m above sea level.
NutritionFood in a swampy wooded area in southern Thailand consists of 85.5% fish. The remaining prey is water snakes, lizards, water turtles, mammals and insects.
ReproductionThe gestation period lasts approximately 2 months. In the Mekong Delta , obviously, offspring was born in November and December.
