History
The Pletnev brothers grew up in Cherepovets and moved to St. Petersburg, realizing the futility of provincial life. They started making music in their hometown: Alexander worked as a DJ [1] , Mikhail was a guitarist in several local rock bands , and after moving he was a member of the File Foreli duet, who performed electro- dance [2] . Life in St. Petersburg rallied brothers who previously did not like each other, and their musical preferences did not always coincide [1] . In February 2011, indulging in their dreams of summer, they recorded the song “My Coast” and, after the approval of friends, made a few more notes that made up the mini-album Red [3] . The attention to their music was attracted by publications in the Look At Me project [2] and on the Afisha magazine website, where their style was dubbed “Russian chillwave ” [4] . The musicians themselves denied this comparison: “It seems to us that in our latest compositions there is nothing in common with this direction,” Mikhail Pletnev said shortly after the release of his debut album [5] .
In the same year, the bass duet Dmitry Zvezdin joined the duo. The group performed at festivals such as "Stereoleto", "Picnic" Posters "" and "Electro-Mechanics" [6] [7] . In the fall, Ifwe recorded the third mini-album, “Teach Me to Fight,” the title track of which was included in the Apples compilation, compiled by David McFadyen, creator of Far from Moscow [8] .
In January 2012, among the 20 other performers, the Pletnevs took part in creating their own version of the Chronop group's song, entitled Birds Night; their processing was included in the single of the same name, where it was designated as "Panno rework" [9] . In the spring, Ifwe were selected as part of the “10 Young Musicians” project on Look At Me and collaborated with Knight Jewel , who worked on the sound of their song “All My Joy” [10] , which became the title track for the band's debut album. The release was announced on the sites Lenta.ru [11] , OpenSpace.ru [12] and Posters [13] and posted on Yandex. Music [14] ; the disc was released on physical media on June 13 under the Snegiri label; on the same day, the presentation of the plate took place in the Moscow club “ 16 tons ” [15] . On June 28, the trio received the Steppe Wolf award in the Debut category [16] .
Other projects
Alexander and Mikhail Pletnev participated in the creation of the Russian Adults blog, in which they paid attention to Russian music recorded at home [17] [18] . Alexander Pletnev has his own musical project Ponty Mython; under this name, he records tracks in the styles of disco and house [19] . He is also a co-founder of Beats Delivery Records [19] .
In February 2014, the Pletnev brothers presented several electronic compositions in the Umdieecke project (translated from German “around the corner”) [20] .
