Ilya Leonidovich Kaler (born June 2, 1963 , Moscow ) is a Soviet and American violinist , the only performer who won the first prizes of the three largest international violin competitions: Paganini (1981), Sibelius (1985) and Tchaikovsky (1986).

Born in the family of World War II participant [1] Leonid Meerovich Kaler (born 1924, Chisinau ) and Rosalia Semenovna Kaler (born 1927). Got the first music lessons from his father, violinist of the USSR State Radio and Television Grand Symphony Orchestra, student of M. Ya. Pester . Then he studied at the Central Music School with Zinaida Gilels and Yuri Yankelevich and at the Moscow Conservatory with Leonid Kogan and Viktor Tretyakov .
Professor of several US music higher education institutions. Since 2018, he will work with his wife Olga at the Cleveland Institute of Music. [2]
