Biography

Born in 1925 in the village of Pisarevka, Yampolsky District, Vinnitsa Region, Ukrainian SSR, in a peasant family. He graduated from the seven-year school, after which he worked on the collective farm .

World War II

In July 1941 he ended up on the territory occupied by German troops and lived on it until March 1944 . On April 10, 1944, the Dzygovsky RVK [1] was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Since August of that year - on the fronts of World War II, he was a sapper of the 50th Infantry Division of the 52nd Army . He took part in the battles on the 1st and 2nd Ukrainian fronts. For the difference in battles during the Iasi-Chisinau operation, he was awarded the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree. Particularly distinguished during the Sandomierz-Silesian operation [2] .

When on January 29, 1945 Vasilishin’s division came to Oder . The 68th separate combat engineer battalion , which was part of this division, was ordered to ensure the crossing of the river, where by then ice drift had begun. The crossing was carried out using fishing boats and makeshift rafts. On the night of January 29-30, 1945, Vasilishin, along with a group of infantrymen, despite strong enemy machine-gun , artillery and mortar fire, as well as ice drift, was the first to cross the Oder in the division and landed troops. During the first voyage, the boat was broken, and two soldiers were seriously wounded, and Vasilishin returned with them to the east coast, closed up the holes and continued to ferry Soviet soldiers. During the third voyage, the boat was finally broken, and then Vasilishin crossed the river back on a log and, taking another boat, continued to carry out the landing. In such conditions, Vasilishin made 7 flights, during which he transported 76 fighters [2] .

He participated in the Lower Silesian and Berlin operations. By the end of the war he was a sergeant . On May 24, 1945, he was taken to the 614th medical battalion of the 50th Rifle Division with a traumatic brain injury, and, despite doctors trying to save him, he died from his injuries on June 2 .

He was buried near the monument to Kutuzov (grave No. 13 [3] of the 141st) at the Kutuzov Memorial near the Boleslawiec – Zgorzelec highway 4 km from the city of Bunzlau ( Brandenburg , Germany ) [1] (now Boleslawiec , Poland ) [2 ] .
