Nicodemus (Shatunov)

Archimandrite Nicodemus (in the world Nikolai Andreyevich Shatunov [1] ; c. 1859 , the village of Zlobino , Vyatka district , Vyatka province - after 1921 ) - priest of the Russian Orthodox Church.

Biography

Born in the village of Zlobino, Vyatka district, Vyatka province (now Kirovo-Chepetsk district of the Kirov region ) in a peasant family [2] [3] .

As a peasant, he studied only in a rural parish school. But, having the ability and zeal, he soon began to teach at the monastery school at the Assumption Tryphon Monastery [4] . Sheared monasticism. He is ordained a hieromonk. He was elevated to the rank of abbot . In 1895 he became the head of the school at the Assumption Tryphon Monastery [4] .

In 1908, with his care and at his expense, in his native village of Zlobino, a wooden church was built on a stone foundation with a bell tower in the name of St. Tryphon of the Vyatka the Wonderworker and Saints Flora and Laurus . With the advent of the church, Zlobino became known as the village of Bogolyubsky [2] .

Since 1909 - rector of the Moscow Vysoko-Petrovsky monastery in the dignity of archimandrite . He stayed as head of the monastery until it was closed by the Soviet government in 1918 [5] .

While living in Moscow, he did not stop caring about the temple he built in his native village: he supplied him with all kinds of utensils, a rich sacristy, expensive icons, built a house with services for the clergy. In 1913, in honor of the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty, he expressed a desire to build a stone temple in the village of Bogolyubsky, as well as donate shrines to the local church - the icons of Saints Panteleimon and St. George with particles of their relics. The stone temple was not built, but the icons were brought to Vyatka land: on August 11, 1913, a procession in the procession, and almost the entire Zlobin parish from Art. Prospect, where Archimandrite Nicodemus arrived with holy gifts, holy icons were delivered to their destination. In front of the stepfather’s house, Archimandrite Nicodemus, lithium was committed [2] .

After he continued to live in Vysoko-Petrovsky Monastery at ul. Petrovka d. 28/2, apt. 31. Arrested on December 27, 1919. On January 9, 1920, the case was dismissed. On November 3, 1920, he was arrested again. On December 3 of the same year, he was sentenced to deportation to Argangelsk for 1 year [6] .

The literature mentions that in 1923 or in 1924 he became bishop of Barnaul [7] , and in 1925 he was arrested [8] [9] and on November 15-25, 1925, he went through the “Sorokin case” in Barnaul, during who was sentenced to a long term of imprisonment [10] . However, this information arose because Archimandrite Nicodemus was confused with Archimandrite Nicodemus (Voskresensky) .
