History
The monastery was founded by Schiarchimandrite Sofroniy (Sakharov) [1] in the spring of 1959 in Moldon , in the county of Essex, in the jurisdiction of the Diocese of Sourozh of the Moscow Patriarchate , with the blessing of Bishop Anthony of Bloom .
In 1965, due to the conflict between Archimandrite Sofroniy and Archbishop Anthony, the monastery, with the blessing of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Alexy I, passed into the jurisdiction of the Patriarchate of Constantinople [2] .
From 1959 to 1974, Archimandrite Sofrony was the first abbot of the monastery, and from September 1, 1974, he withdrew from the prior and became the spiritual father of the monastery (died on July 11, 1993).
The monastery has a temple in honor of St. Silouan of Athos, a home church in honor of St. John the Baptist, a cemetery church in honor of All Saints, old and new refectory, hotels for pilgrims.
The monastery is mixed, that is, both female and male monastic communities live (separately) on its territory.
