The village of Colorful is located in the arid north-eastern part of the Stavropol Territory. The land mass is a flat steppe, slightly inclined in a northeast direction. The northern part of the territory of the Colorful Village Council is cut by the valley of the Kevsala River. This territory is located in the transition zone from the South Russian steppe and the Aral-Caspian lowland. The history of the village is inextricably linked with sheep farming. He was born and developed all these years, starting in 1932, only because of the rapid development of this industry, carried out selection work to create and improve the Caucasian sheep breed .

The Ipatovsky state farm was organized in 1932 with the disaggregation of state farm No. 12 Bolshevik of the former Dmitrievsky District. During the division, both farms received approximately equal territory and flocks of equal number of sheep, but several flocks of the 1st class were transferred to the Ipatovsky state farm, which was also called No. 22 in those years, and the elite stock remained in the Bolshevik breeding factory. In total, 30,408 sheep were transferred to the newly formed farm. including 11273 ewes.

Wool herd productivity during the organization of the economy:

The herd of the Bolshevik state farm was originally equipped in 1921-1922 with merino sheep belonging to local fists and landowners. In pedigree terms, the sheep represented the Novokavkazsky and Mazaevsky merino, different in their quality and productivity. The rams had a live weight of 64–74 kg, and the uterus 35–40 kg.

The bulk of the sheep had a long, strong, well-balanced fine coat of 64–70 quality, but rare and very greasy with a yield of pure fiber of 1.5–1.6 kg. In the exterior of the sheep there were flaws: a narrow chest, a sharp withers, a saggy sacrum, the proximity of the legs in the hocks.

The work on creating the Caucasian sheep breed is characterized by three periods.

In the first period (from 1921 to 1926), the reproduction and improvement of the "in itself" merino sheep of the New Caucasus type was carried out. In 1926, a herd of fine-wooled sheep of a state farm ranks first in productivity among other state farms that bred merino sheep of this type.

In the second period (from 1926 to 1930), American ram rams imported from the USA were used at the state farm. The "blood rush" of American rambulls was aimed at improving the exterior of local merino, increasing their live weight, thickening of the coat and the appearance of the belly while maintaining the good wool qualities of the New Caucasian merino.

In the third period (1931-1936), work was completed on the creation of the Caucasian breed, which was carried out at the Bolshevik state farm under the leadership of Konstantin Dmitrievich Filyansky and Nadezhda M. Ternovenko. The Ipatovsky state farm also worked on the same methods. This period is the most significant. It is characterized by the use of more advanced methods for the selection and selection of animals, the improvement of their conditions and an increase in the general culture of sheep farming in the economy. In 1936, by the decision of the animal husbandry section of VASKHNIL and the order of the USSR NKZ, a flock of sheep of the Bolshevik state farm was assigned to the Caucasian breed, and in 1940, a herd of Ipatovsky state farm.

In the post-war period (1943-1952), breeding in the herd was carried out under the supervision of S.P. Pastukhov, zootechnician-breeder Plemovceglavka of the USSR Ministry of Agriculture.

In the 80s, they began to use the world-famous Australian merinos. As a result, in 1990 a new type of Caucasian breed was recognized - the South Caucasian merino. The wool of these animals was of high quality, had a moderate white fat, uterus on average weighed 60–70 kilograms, sheep - 130, but reached 180.

In 2005-2011, the number of sheep in the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Bolshevik Tribal Plant” was completely liquidated, and the Tribal Plant named after Hero of Socialist Labor V.V. Kalyagin CJSC (until 2005 the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Tribal Plant named after the 60th Anniversary of the USSR”) was sharply reduced to 1500 goals.

According to the chief livestock specialist of the agricultural enterprise A. S. Mandrykin: “Today, the remaining animals of the Caucasian breed, and this is about one and a half thousand breeding and colorful livestock, have been reviewed, plans for the formation of flocks have been outlined. Favorable conditions have been created for ram producers.
