Kaszabister rubellus (lat.) - a species of myrmecophilous beetles-carapace ( Histeridae ). South America : Argentina (Buenos Aires, Córdoba), Brazil (Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina), Uruguay (Rivera). Small reddish-brown oval-shaped beetles. Body length about 2 mm. Copies from Brazil were found in association with fire ants of the genus Solenopsis . In Uruguay, found in the nest of leaf-cutting ants of the species Acromyrmex lundii . The species was described in 1834 by the German entomologist Wilhelm Erichson, originally under the name Epierus rubellus . Later (Mazur, 1984) it was included in the genus Kaszabister , as it turned out to be a synonym for its type species Kaszabister mahunkai Mazur, 1972 (which became a junior synonym) [2] .
