Biography

Born February 23 ( March 8 ), 1901 in Krivoy Rog in the family of a teacher. Jew.

From the age of fifteen he gave private lessons. In 1918 he graduated from a commercial school.

In 1921 he left for Poland , then to Palestine , where he lived for several years. In 1926 he received permission from the Soviet authorities to return to the USSR. He studied painting at the Central Studio of the Academy of Arts . A few years later became a member of the literary circle " Wagranka ". Since 1930 he worked as an editor in one of the publishing houses.

During the Great Patriotic War, he served as a literary editor in the Office of the Naval Publishing House of the People's Commissariat of the Navy. In 1944 he was awarded the badge of Excellence in the Navy .

He died on June 15, 1956 in Moscow . He was buried at the Don cemetery .

He began his literary work in 1929 with the publication of essays .

One of the main themes of Egart's works is the life of Soviet workers (novels Marusya Zhuravlyova, 1937; Friends, 1950). Among his works are also the novel “On a Farm” (1939) about the years of revolution and the Civil War , “Youth” (1943) and “Forward, Captains!” (1947) about the Great Patriotic War, autobiographical novel “Scorched Earth” (pr. 1 —2, 1933-1934), the novel “The Talisman” (1940), the children's adventure novel “Bay of Fogs” (1956), the science-fiction novel “The Zone of Impermeability” (1946).
