General Description
Contains (%): Al2O3 - 14.9; SO3 35.09; H2O - 50.01.
Syngonia triclinic. Forms of selection: fibrous masses or crusts, less often prismatic crystals.
Density 1.65. Hardness is 1.5-2.
The color is white to yellowish or reddish due to impurities. Shine silky to glass. Forms dense flaps, sometimes asbestos-like masses.
It occurs in the oxidation zone of pyrites and areas of volcanic activity. Fills cracks in coal, shales and in iron veins. Associates with sulfur and gypsum in fumarole deposits [1] .
