Clarence Alfred Bottolfsen was born on October 10, 1891 in the city of Superior Wisconsin . He received his secondary education in North Dakota , where the family moved shortly after his birth. Bottolphsen continued his studies at a business college in Minnesota . In 1905, he began working as a journalist - first in the Wells County News publishing house, and since 1910 - in the weekly newspaper Arco Advertiser in Idaho, becoming its owner in 1947. In the years 1934-1938, Bottolfsen was the editor of the Daily Bulletin . In 1920, Bottolfsen was elected to the Idaho House of Representatives. Subsequently, he was re-elected four times. In 1938, Bottolfsen defeated the Republican Party in Idaho's gubernatorial election. He lost the 1940 election, but won again in 1942. Among his achievements as governor:
- Settlement on issued bonds and balancing the budget by paying costs in cash.
- Drafting and proposing three amendments to the state constitution.
- Idaho joins five other states in the Northwest Development Union.
Bottolfsen also held political posts after the end of his gubernatorial term:
- in 1949 and 1957 - chief clerk of the House of Representatives of Idaho.
- in 1949 - one of the leaders of the interim committee for the reorganization of the state government .
- in 1953 - deputy parliamentary bailiff.
- in 1955-1956 - Executive Secretary of the Idaho Senator Herman Welker .
- in 1958 - member of the Idaho Senate for two terms.
Clarence Bottolfsen was married to Elizabeth Hannah. He died on July 19, 1964 at the age of 72.
