History

The Independence Museum was established on December 7, 1919 in the capital of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic , in the city of Baku . A major role in the creation of the museum was played by G. Mirzadzhamalov and I. M. Agaoglu. The museum collected archaeological finds, works of artists, copies of rare books, numismatics, jewelry, etc. [1]

The museum was located in the ADR parliament building (now the building of the Institute of Manuscripts of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan ). It is noted that it was then that the first attempt was made in Azerbaijan to create a legal document on the organization and storage of museum items. The museum lasted only one year and could not implement all the plans. It was liquidated in 1920 , when Soviet power was established in Azerbaijan. The materials collected in the museum became the basis for the Muzekskurs funds and the Azerbaijan State Museum [1] .

The creation of this museum is considered the second attempt to create a museum in Azerbaijan .

Modernity

The Azerbaijan Museum of Independence was revived on January 9, 1991 . The Museum of Independence is located in the Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The purpose of the museum was to show the struggle of the Azerbaijani people at various stages of historical development. The museum exposition is located in 6 rooms. [2]

Notes

1. ↑ It is noted that an attempt to create the first museum in Azerbaijan was made by Jalil Mammadkulizade in 1890 , when he organized a museum of local lore in the school of the village of Nekhram ( Nakhichevan Autonomous Republic ), which collected materials telling about the history of Azerbaijan. Archival documents indicate that at the beginning of the XX century in Baku, with the direction of public schools, there was a pedagogical museum created by the teacher A. S. Tkhorzhevsky. This museum served for educational purposes, created and demonstrated methodological and visual aids. It was closed in 1920, after the creation of museums under the People's Commissariat of Education. Also in the archives were found documents telling that the All-Russian Technical Society, with its Baku branch, had a small museum, consisting of 1,500 exhibits, divided into 13 departments [1] .
