An important hotel was the building under Richard Ballard ( Richard Ballard ), who was mayor of Monmouth in 1675, as well as the postmaster [2] . Hot royalist, he tried to achieve the visit of Charles I, and issued silver coins with the inscription "God Save the King of Our Merciful" and the head of Charles II. Charles I was rumored to have visited him in 1645, during his stay at Raglan Castle , and the owner later, in 1673, installed the plaster bas-relief of Charles, which can still be seen above the fireplace in the left bar. It is unclear, however, whether the bust is a depiction of Charles I or Charles II, or a mixture of both, or, perhaps, in a generalized way, of the monarch, since he is not very realistic.

In 1820, William Cobbet , a publicist, spoke at a hotel [3] . At that time, he had just unsuccessfully ran for Coventry . He was noted for his opposition to paper money and grain laws , as well as for his enthusiasm for parliamentary reform and the British villagers.

In 1835, at Agincourt, there were 15 hotels and pubs, which led to the saying “A gin court here, a gin court there” (a play on words: , the genital courtyard is here, it’s impossible they call this djinnodvornoy square ”) [4] .

In 2011, Kings Head (JD Westherspoons) sponsored a local cricket club . A framed T-shirt was placed on the wall of the bar, and the club holds its monthly bar meetings [5] . Like dozens of other objects in the pub, the club frame is equipped with the QRpedia code, which allows visitors to get information about the club in their own language. It was installed in 2012 as part of the MonmouthpediA project, which provides visitors with information on all sides of the city [6] .
