Biography

Mikhail Vasilenko was born on June 15, 1913 in the village of Vinnikovo (now the Mikhailovsky District of the Amur Region ) in a peasant family. In 1938 he graduated from the Agricultural Technical School. In the same year he was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army, studied at the Khabarovsk military-political school. Since 1941 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, he graduated from the Mariinsky Artillery School in 1944 . In the same year joined the VKP (b) . By March 1945, Junior Lieutenant Mikhail Vasilenko commanded a platoon of the 1137th Light Artillery Regiment of the 169th Light Artillery Brigade of the 14th Artillery Division of the 6th Shock Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .

During the battles for expanding the bridgehead in the area of Kustrin, a platoon of Vasilenko destroyed 12 enemy tanks , 2 mortar batteries, 8 firing points and several dozen enemy soldiers and officers for the period of the battles from March 27 to 28, 1945. In the course of repulsing another enemy counterattack, Vasilenko replaced the commander and gunner, who had fallen out of action, and personally destroyed 4 tanks and 3 machine guns . Despite the injury, Vasilenko did not leave the battlefield [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 31, 1945, Junior Lieutenant Mikhail Vasilenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .

After the war, the rank of lieutenant Vasilenko was dismissed. He lived and worked in Blagoveshchensk , was the director of the plant "Amurelectropribor". He died on April 28, 1978 [1] .

Honorary Citizen of Blagoveshchensk. He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2 nd degree and the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
