Small mole rat [1] ( lat. Nannospalax leucodon ) is a small mammal of the rat mole rat family.

Description
Small mole rat with a length of 15 to 24 centimeters. Soft coat on the back of buffy-brown, on the belly - dark gray color. The animal has neither auricles nor tail, eyes are hidden under a layer of skin. From the nose to the place where the eyes are hidden, there passes a light strip of bristles.
Distribution
Lesser mole rat lives in Southeast Europe , Asia Minor and Libya . Initially, he was a steppe resident, nevertheless, as a hemerophile, the species also lives in fields, meadows and arable lands. In the mountains, it was found at an altitude of 2400 m above sea level .
Lifestyle
Animals are active both day and night. They dig burrows up to 100 m long and up to 4 m deep. They arrange special pantries, nesting chambers and even special latrines in them. They lead mainly a solitary lifestyle, do not fall into hibernation, very rarely rise to the surface of the earth, and then only at night.
Nutrition
They feed on roots, tubers and crop products. They are big lovers of bulbous plants, so they dig their holes in the mountain steppes, where they feed on root crops.
Reproduction
The breeding season lasts from March to June. The female gives birth once a year from 1 to 6, as a rule, 3-4 cubs whom they feed with milk for about 4 weeks and excommunicate in the second month of life.
