Biography
Early years
Vasily Shakaliy was born on May 10, 1920 in the village of Krupoderintsy of the Orzhitsky district of the Poltava region of Ukraine into a Ukrainian peasant family. Having received primary education, he worked on a collective farm.
Participation in the Great Patriotic War
Since September 1943, Vasily Shakali served in the Red Army and took part in the battles of World War II.

On March 3, 1945, in the settlement of Pegelov , located eight kilometers north-east of the Polish city of Stargard Szczecinski , the commander of the reconnaissance unit of the 89th Rifle Regiment, Junior Sergeant Vasily Shakaliy with his scouts destroyed seven and captured four German soldiers. For courage and bravery shown in battles, on April 11, 1945, Junior Sergeant Shakaly Vasily Ilyich was awarded the Order of Glory of the 2nd degree (No. 15952).
After the war
In 1946, V.I. By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated March 31, 1956, Junior Reserve Sergeant Shakali Vasily Ilyich was re-awarded the Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 2390) for becoming an accomplished cavalier of the Order of Glory for exemplary execution of command assignments in battles against Nazi invaders.
Honored Veteran, Knight of the Four Orders of Glory worked on a collective farm in his small homeland. Already being a full holder of the Order of Glory, the reserve foreman Shakaly was again awarded the second Order of Glory of the 1st degree (No. 2156), which he was awarded by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR of May 15, 1946.
May 22, 1991 Vasily Ilyich Shakalin died.
