Biography

George Menglet was born in Voronezh .

In 1930 he graduated from the 1st Voronezh Soviet labor school of the 2nd level. In Voronezh, he first appeared on the stage.

In 1930-1933 he studied at CETETIS (now GITIS ), in the class of A.P. Petrovsky .

In 1931, in parallel with his studies, he began working at the State Historical and Revolutionary Theater, where for two years he played in the performances “By Order of His Majesty” K. L. Moore , “Chernyshevsky and Alexander II” by N. N. Lerner , as well as the role of Kayus in the final performance of " Windsor Pranks " by W. Shakespeare (1933). In the years 1932-1933 - actor of the Satire Theater .

A decisive influence on the formation of the actor’s talent was provided by A.D. Wild , into the studio of which he was accepted in 1934. He showed himself to be an actor of a sharp and accurate form, a mark and often an evil character; possessed a bright improvisational gift. His very first role in the studio of Wild - a lover in the sideshow of M. de Cervantes “The Jealous Old Man” [2] (the premiere of the play on December 19, 1934 is considered the studio’s “birthday”), and especially Sergey’s clerk in Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk uezd S. Leskov (1935), revealed the characteristic features of his artistic personality.

At the beginning of 1936, the Wild studio was closed; in the summer of that year he was appointed artistic director of the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater. M. Gorky (BDT). The director took most of the former studio students with him, including G. Menglet. After the arrest of A.D. Wild in August 1937, the actor decided to create a new theater - from the Dikov studio. The theater, according to his plan, was to become the “Wild Theater” secretly, and publicly - the Russian Drama Theater in some republic remote from Moscow, where there was no permanent Russian theater. In the Committee on Arts, they were offered the Tajik SSR . In 1937, G. Menglet left the BDT and with a group of like-minded people went to the capital of Tajikistan, Stalinabad (from 1961 - Dushanbe ), where they founded the Russian Drama Theater , which in 1940 was named after V. Mayakovsky [3] . He played more than 20 roles on the stage of this theater [4] .

For several months he performed on the stage of the E. Vakhtangov Theater in Moscow, but in November 1945 he moved to the Satire Theater , in which he served until the end of his life.

Hobbies

In addition to the theater, Georgy Pavlovich Menglet had another passion that he carried through his whole life. He was a sports fan and supported the CSKA team. Many of the people close to him recalled this passion.

... Dad was a football fan all his life. Wake him up at night, ask who in 1945 scored a goal in the right corner with the left foot to the CSKA team - he will immediately answer. He also introduced me to football - he took with him to matches. I was sick with him, screaming, worried. He has been a fan of CSKA all his life. I also became a fan of this team. Dad was for me inherent in theater and football.
