Biography
Stefan Ilzanker was born on July 6, 1965 in the city of Berchtesgaden , federal state of Bavaria . He began to actively engage in the luge sport in the early 1980s, soon he was selected for the national team and, together with Georg Hackle, began to take part in major international competitions, showing quite good results. So, already in the 1985/86 season, he took the third place in the overall World Cup, and a year later he was placed in the world ranking of the strongest lugers on the second line. At the 1987 World Championships in Austria, Igls won a silver medal on a double sledge.
Thanks to a series of successful performances, Ilzanker won the right to defend the honor of the country at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary , overcame his qualifications without any problems and planned to fight for medals here, but in the end he finished in twos only fourth. At the World Cup in the next two seasons, he occupied the third and second places of the overall standings, and at the European Championship in 1990 in Imst won another silver award, finishing second in the competitions of mixed teams. Since after the unification of Germany, competition in the national team has increased dramatically, soon Stefan Ilzanker decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young German lugers.
