Career
Bruns was born in Sandy (Oregon) [1] and went to college at the University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity . He graduated in 1936. [2] In 1946, he became music director at KEX radio station in Portland, Oregon.
Among his works is the song Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life for Me) (which he wrote in collaboration with Xavier Atencio ), used in the musical theme of the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and in films based on this attraction. He is also the co-author of "The Ballad of Davy Crockett" with Tom Blackburn , as well as the song "Love" for the cartoon "Robin Hood . " In the mid-1950s, he adapted the music from the ballet "Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky for use as background music in the animated film "Sleeping Beauty" . He also wrote music for The Jungle Book .
Bruns left the company in 1976 and returned to Sandy. [1] There, he worked as a half-time teacher and continued to play and compose music, including recording at least one locally popular jazz album. [one]
As a musician, George Bruns was famous for his skill in playing both trombone and tuba and was in great demand among various jazz groups along the Pacific coast.
Death
Bruns died of a heart attack on May 23, 1983 in Portland . [1] In 2001, he received the title of Disney's Legend .
