Biography and Creativity

Vasari reports that the artist came from an aristocratic family. Raised in the traditions of Foppa , Bernardo Zenale and Ambrogio Bergognone , he was trained in the workshop of Leonardo . His first work, The Resurrection of Christ, Saint Leonard and Saint Lucia, was completed in 1491 with Marco d'Ojojo for the church of San Giovanni sul Muro in Milan. He was a court painter of Lodovico Moreau and was famous for his psychological portraits.

Boltraffio died at the age of 49 and was buried in the cemetery of the church of St. Paula in Comito.

Some art historians suggest that the figure of a baby in the painting by Leonardo da Vinci " Madonna Litta " belongs to the brush of Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio. Famous preparatory drawings by Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio, exactly reproducing this figure.
