History

Sultans of Al Wahidi have been known since the 17th century .

Until 1830, the Wahid Sultanate of Balhaf (sometimes just the Wahidi Sultanate) existed with the capital Habban . In 1830 , after the period of the reign of Sultan Abdullah bin Ahmad al-Wahidi (1810-1830), a single sultanate was divided between his relatives into four parts:

  1. Sultanate of Wahidi Balhaf
  2. Sultanate of Wahidi Azzan with the capital Azzan
  3. Vilayet Wahidi Bir Ali Amakin
  4. Sultanate Wahidi Hubban .

After this, a gradual reverse process began: on May 4, 1881, when Sultan Abdullah Umar became the head of the Sultanate of Wahidi Balhaf , the sultanates of Wahidi Azzan and Wahidi Balhaf merged into one state, Balhaf wa Azzan Al-Wahidi .

Under British

In the 19th century, the Wahidi states began to enter the sphere of British interests in South Arabia. In 1888, the joint Sultanate of Balhaf wa Azzan Al-Wahidi, having signed a protection treaty with Great Britain, became part of the British Aden Protectorate until 1917 .

In 1895, the Wahidi Bir Ali Amakin vilayet became part of this protectorate, and in 1888, the Sultanate Wahidi Habban.

The Wahidi Sultanates was part of the Western Aden Protectorate from 1917 to 1937 , and then the Eastern Aden Protectorate from 1937 to 1961 .

By 1962, the Sultan of the Sultanate of Balhaf wa Azzan Nasir bin Abdallah al-Wahidi (1948-1967) managed to unite under his supreme authority all the states of Wahidi into a single sultanate, on October 23, 1962, the united state adopted the historical name - Wahidi Sultanate .

In 1962, the territory of the Wahidi Sultanate, in addition to the governorate of Wahidi Bir Ali Amakin, became part of the Federation of South Arabia established by the British, and the territory of Wahidi Bir Ali Amakin was included in the British Protectorate of South Arabia .

In 1967, the monarchy in Wahidi was abolished, and the territory of the state became part of the People's Republic of South Yemen .
