Safety is the debut record of the British rock band Coldplay , released on its own in May 1998 as a demo for record companies. The then Coldplay manager Phil Harvey acted as a sponsor. The group was so pleased with the result that it was decided to pay 500 copies and distribute them throughout London . Recording stores reached only 50 copies.
