Biography
Roman Wilhelmi was born in 1936 in the city of Poznan , Poland . After completing secondary education, he studied at the Theater Academy in Warsaw ( Polish Akademia Teatralna im. Aleksandra Zelwerowicza w Warszawie ), which he graduated in 1958. For almost 30 years he played at the Ateneum Theater ( Polish Teatr Ateneum w Warszawie ), where he performed many interesting roles of the modern and classical drama repertoire: Stanley Kowalski in Tram "Desire" , McMurphy in " Flying Over the Cuckoo's Nest ", Per Gynt and so on Further.
The first major success in the cinema came with the role of tank commander Olgerd Yarosh in the 21 television series “Four Tankers and a Dog”. The image seemed stereotyped to the actor and by the 7th episode he refused further shooting (according to the plot of the film, the officer dies). Such a demarche in relation to the extremely popular patriotic film was noticed by the communist authorities: Roman Wilhelmy for several years did not claim any major roles in the movie [1] . However, by the mid-1970s and early 1980s, he again achieved recognition in the cinema, when he was awarded the prize of the Polish Film Festival in Gdansk for the best male role in the film " Hotel Pacific " ( Polish. Zaklęte rewiry , 1975) and the MIFF Prizes for their role in the film “The Night Butterfly ” ( Polish Cma , 1980) [2] , as well as several national awards for playing the leading role in the television series Career of Nicodemus Dyzyma based on the novel of the same name by Tadeusz Dolengi-Mostowicz .
He died in 1991 from liver cancer, provoked by addiction to alcohol [3] .
