Biography
Born April 23, 1923 in the village of Konyushevka (now Lipovetsky district , Vinnitsa region , Ukraine ) in a peasant family. On the paternal side, his family comes from the Czech Republic , from where in 1874 the great-grandfather of the future writer moved to Ukraine. He graduated with honors from the Czech seven-year school. Back in school, he wrote his first poems, plays and short stories. After graduating from high school, he entered the Kharkov Aviation College. But the war interrupted his studies: an eighteen-year-old youth came to the front.
Member of World War II. He ended up in a partisan detachment, fought as the commander of a partisan platoon , and eventually the horse detachment named after A.V. Suvorov.
After the war, in 1949-1953 he studied at the correspondence department of the Zhytomyr Agricultural Institute, worked in a newspaper, at the A.P. Dovzhenko film studio . In 1963-1966 - the chief editor of the Kiev film studio. In 1964-1969 - the head of her script workshop.
He died on July 17, 1977 . He was buried in Kiev at the Baykovsky cemetery .
Creativity
Began to print since 1945. The main theme of the works of Vasil Zemlyak is the difficult fate of the farmer, the problems of recovering from the post-war devastation of the Soviet village, the affirmation of love for the native land, the Soviet Motherland, the recent military past, and the partisan struggle against the German invaders.

Vasil Zemlyak is the author of short stories, novels and novels. The name of the writer attracted the attention of the public after the publication of two of his stories - “The Native Side” (1956) and “Stone Brod” (1957), which he devoted to the theme of the Ukrainian post-war village.

- In Kiev, a memorial plaque was installed on the house where the writer worked.
- A bust is installed on the grave of V. Zemlyak in the Baykovsky cemetery.
