Garbage (pronounced garbage , translated from the English. - "garbage") is a Scottish - American rock band formed in the USA in the city of Madison in 1994 ^[1] . The group includes Scottish singer Shirley Manson (vocals, guitar, keyboards) and American musicians Steve Marker (guitar, keyboards), Duke Erickson (bass, keyboards, guitar, percussion) and Butch Wiig (drums, percussion). Garbage is one of the most successful rock bands of the 1990s . In total, more than 17 million copies of her albums have been sold in the world ^{[2] [3]} .

In 1995 - 1996, Garbage released a number of successful singles , including " Queer " and " Only Happy When It Rains ", which brought the group worldwide fame. The debut studio album Garbage became a bestseller and received platinum status in the UK , USA and Australia ^[4] . In 1996, a large-scale world tour took place in support of the album, during which the group received the MTV Europe Music Awards in the Best Debut category ^[5] .

In 1998, the second album Garbage Version 2.0 was released , which topped the British chart and was nominated for two Grammy awards in the categories " Best Album of the Year " and " Best Rock Album " ^[6] . During the tour, the group recorded the song “ The World Is Not Enough ”, especially for the nineteenth film about James Bond. And the whole world is not enough ^[7] .

In 2001, Beautiful Garbage's third studio album was released. The disc could not surpass the successes of its predecessors ^[8] and received mixed reviews from critics and fans of the group, although it was in the top 10 best albums of the year by Rolling Stone magazine ^[9] . In 2005, the fourth album Bleed Like Me was released , reaching high places on the charts in the UK and the USA ^[10] and receiving gold status in Australia ^[11] . But the concert tour in support of the record was interrupted almost at the very beginning, and the musicians announced an “unlimited vacation” ^[12] , emphasizing that the group did not split up ^[13] . During 2006, the group members were engaged in third-party projects.

Garbage's creative break ended in 2007 , when the band released a collection of the best hits Absolute Garbage ^[14] . In the fall of 2010, musicians began work on new material ^[15] . On May 14, 2012, Stunvolume Records ^{[16] [17]} released its fifth studio album, Not Your Kind of People , on its own independent label , followed by a world tour ^[18] .
