Preparative Chromatography

Preparative chromatography is a type of chromatography conducted to isolate individual compounds from a mixture in its pure form. In contrast to analytical chromatography , preparative separations are carried out on large-diameter columns and special devices are used to collect individual components (fractions). In laboratory practice, columns with a diameter of 8–15 mm are used and usually from 100 mg to 10 g of an individual substance is isolated; industry created columns with a diameter of up to 0.5 meters, which is possible to carry out the separation of several tons of matter. The effectiveness of preparative columns is less than that used in analytical chromatography .
