History
In 2005, employees of the Polish consulate in Karachi restored 58 gravestones of Polish citizens in the Christian cemetery of Mount Kabaristan . In 1942-1945, more than 30,000 refugees from Eastern Poland found refuge in Karachi and were placed in two camps for refugees - Gulshan-i-Iqbal and Malir. These camps were led by British authorities and representatives of the Polish government in exile. Fifty-eight Poles died in these refugee camps and were buried in a Christian cemetery.
Father Gaspar Mendes from the Church of St. Anthony visited the cemetery after restoration and prayed for the souls of the deceased. The Consul General of Poland, Ireneusz Makles and his wife, were also present at this ceremony.
Father Gaspar also prayed for the soul of the Pakistan Air Force Brigadier General, ethnic Pole Vladislav Turovich who was buried in the same cemetery. Turovich came to Pakistan in 1948, served in the Air Force, and in 1961 received Pakistani citizenship .
