Biography
Born November 22, 1909 in the village. Alekhino of the Temnikovsky district of the Tambov province (now - Yermishinsky district of the Ryazan region ) in a peasant family.
He graduated from junior high school. In 1932 - 1939, Vanyushkin served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . After demobilization, he worked as chairman of the Osoaviahima district council.
In 1940 he joined the VKP (b) .
At the end of 1941, M. S. Vanyushkin was re-called up to the army.
In 1942, he graduated from the military-political school and refresher courses for political personnel in command positions. Since May of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War.
He took part in the battles on the Bryansk , South-West and 2nd Byelorussian fronts.
By January 1945, Senior Lieutenant M. S. Vanyushkin commanded a tank platoon of the 18th Tank Regiment of the 47th Mechanized Brigade of the 5th Guards Tank Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front.
Distinguished during the battles in East Prussia (now - the territory of Poland ) [1] .
On January 19, 1945, during the breakthrough of the enemy defense, M. S. Vanyushkin was the first to cross the border of East Prussia and cut off the withdrawal paths of the German troops from the city of Naidenburg (now Nidzitsa ). In the area of the settlement, he destroyed 2 Tiger tanks, 1 Ferdinand self-propelled artillery system, more than 100 enemy soldiers and officers. Pursuing the departing German units, he broke into Naidenburg, where he fought a street fight for 8 hours until the main forces of the brigade approached. On February 7, during the storming of the city of Frauenburg (now - Frombork ), the MS tank. Vanyushkina was set on fire, and he was wounded, but despite this, he attacked the enemy, destroying 2 anti-tank guns, 4 mortars , 6 machine guns and more than 30 soldiers and officers of the enemy. Having escaped forward, Vanyushkin ensured the advancement of Soviet infantry units and the successful occupation of the city. On May 8, during the battle for the bridge over the river Braude (now Bauda), the tank of M. S. Vanyushkin was hit, and he himself was seriously wounded. Having missed 2 tanks with a group of infantrymen onto the bridge, Vanyushkin blew it up, sacrificing his life [1] .
Awards
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945, for "exemplary execution of command assignments and for showing courage and heroism in battles against German invaders", Senior Lieutenant M. S. Vanyushkin was posthumously awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of I. I. Lenin .
Memory
- A street in the village of Yermish [1] is named in honor of M. S. Vanyushkin.
- The memorial plaque to Vanyushkin Mikhail Stepanovich is installed on the memorial complex in the urban-type settlement of Yermish, Ryazan Region .
