Personal life
Libesman was born in Johannesburg ( South Africa ). Studied filmmaking at AFDA and Tish New York School of the Arts. In Hush, he co-authored a script and directed an 8-minute short film Birth of a Disaster - an adaptation of a story by Roald Dahl . The film was screened at many festivals around the world and won the Best Short Film Award nomination at the Austin Film Festival in 2000. Libesman also won the Young Hollywood Award in the category of Best Director at the Hollywood Film Festival in 2000. Her daughter Miranda Libesman is now 18 years old.
Hollywood Career
In 2002, at the age of 26, he directed his first feature film The Darkness Comes . Despite the fact that the film mainly received negative reviews, it became number 1 in the American film distribution. The film has grossed over $ 32.5 million at the American box office and nearly 15 million worldwide. [1] The film was nominated for Best Horror Movie / Thriller at the Teen Choice Awards in 2003. Emma Caulfield, who co-starred in the film, won the Cinescape (Genre Face of the Future) magazine award for Best Actress in the same year.
The next project was Libesman, co-authored and co-written with Eren Krueger, a 15-minute short film Calls , a sequel to Call and the prequel to Call 2 . The short was praised by fans of feature films.
Due to the success of the film, Michael Bay and his production company Platinum Dunes drew attention to Libesman , who hired him to stage a prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre called The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning . The premiere of the film in the United States took place on October 5, 2006, in Russia on November 30, 2006. The film became number 2 in the American film distribution and raised $ 51,764,406 million worldwide, of which 39,517,763 million are in the United States.
In 2007, it was announced that Libesman would be directing the remake of Friday, the 13th [2] , but in November 2007, the director of the remake of the Texas 2003 chainsaw massacre, Marcus Nispel, replaced Libesman in this post. [3]
In 2008, Libesman finished his third full-length film, The Death Room , starring Chloe Sevigny , Nick Cannon , Timothy Hatton and Peter Stormare . The film premiered in an out-of-competition program at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009. [four]
In November 2008, Columbia Pictures announced that Libesman would be directing the science fiction film Alien Invasion: The Battle of Los Angeles . The 70 millionth film, scripted by Christopher Bertolini, talks about how a detachment of marines has to defend Los Angeles from alien invaders. [5] The film earned over $ 80 million in American film distribution. The worldwide film fees totaled more than $ 200 million. [6]
In June 2010, Libesman was appointed director of the sequel to the Clash of the Titans , titled Rage of the Titans , starring Sam Worthington , Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson . [7] Filming took place in the summer of 2011 in London , South Wales and the Canary Island of Tenerife .
In February 2012, he began negotiations to become the director of the Ninja Turtles movie . [8] In March, negotiations with Libesman completed successfully. The film was produced by Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes . [9]
