The Weber Sailing Lizard [1] ( lat. Hydrosaurus weberi ) is a species of agamidae lizards. The species epithet is given in honor of the Dutch zoologist Max Wilhelm Weber (1852-1937).

DescriptionThe body length is 1.2 m, with the tail occupying a significant part of the length. Sexual dimorphism is observed - males are larger than females whose maximum body length is 90 cm. The trunk is high, laterally compressed. The head is massive with shortened jaws. The fingers of the hind limbs are bordered at the edges of a flat, quadrangular scale that merges into the narrow blades used for swimming. On the back there is a scaly crest 1 cm high, and at the base of the long tail there is a flat skin crest, which is supported by processes of the caudal vertebrae. The tail and limbs are quite powerful.
The skin color is gray-brown or olive-green with many yellowish scales on the back. Sometimes a pattern of darker spots or stripes is noticeable. The rainbow is reddish in color.
LifestyleHe loves dense vegetation along ponds. Spends a significant part of life near the water. Moves well through trees and shrubs, swims well. Hiding in danger on trees or in water. Active during the day. It feeds on fish, crustaceans, insects and their larvae, invertebrates, fruits, plant foods. Life expectancy is 10 years.
ReproductionThis is an egg-laying lizard. Puberty occurs at 2 years. The mating period lasts from February to April. Pregnancy lasts 10-11 weeks. The female lays 15 oval-shaped eggs 3-4 cm long in the moist sand. After 90 days, young lizards 16-20 cm long appear.
DistributionIt is endemic to Indonesia . It occurs mainly on the Moluccas , sometimes on the island of Sulawesi .
