Kaupolikan

Kaupolikan (died in 1558, Cañete, date of birth is unknown, place of birth is Pilmacuen) - Toki, Mapuche Indians commander in the territory of modern Chile , who led the army of Indians during the first Mapuche rebellion against the Spanish conquistadors from 1553 to 1558.

After a successful campaign to conquer most of Araucania, Pedro de Valdivia and the inability of the Linkouan currents to stop them, the Mapuche persuaded Colocolo to choose a new senior military leader to counter the Spanish threat.

The Kaupolikan, being Pilmakuen's ulmen, defeated his rivals for the Toki post, demonstrating his tremendous strength by holding the tree trunk for three days and three nights (or two days and one night - this is indicated differently in different sources). In addition to proving his physical strength, he also had to show the talent of the poetic word in order to inspire people to valor and unity.

The Kaupolikan, however, did not see the Mapuche victory - after the death of Lautaro, he suffered several defeats from the troops of Hurtado de Mendoza, losing more than 6,000 soldiers in one of the battles. As a result, he retreated to the mountains of Cañete, where he was captured by Captain Alonso de Reinoso and executed by landing on a stake in 1558 in front of his wife. After his death, Kaupolikan Jr. took over his post.
