Lausanne station was built in 1856 by the then West Swiss company. In 1906, a competition was announced for the construction of a new station, the facade of which was to be worthy, but not luxurious, the material was given preference to local stone. The competition was won by the architectural workshops of Monod & Laverrière and Taillens & Dubois . The construction of the station in the Art Nouveau style was carried out from 1911 to 1916. In 1992-1996, a major overhaul was carried out at the station. [one]
In 1984, the first TGV high-speed train arrived at the station. In 2008, the Lausanne Gare metro station was opened on the station square. Transit freight trains pass through the station.
