Game Asset ( Game Asset ) or Game resource - a digital object, mainly consisting of the same data, an indivisible entity that represents part of the game content and has certain properties. The concept of “game asset” is used in the development of computer games in relation to those content elements that are processed by the resource system as indivisible (atomic, elementary) entities.
From the point of view of the program model, an asset (resource) can act as an object created on a certain data set. The resource can be stored as a separate file. Resources are the “building blocks” of game objects that make up the game.
The totality of all resources in the game, all objects based on resources, all links and connections between them, as well as restrictions on resources and mechanisms for serializing / deserializing resources is called a resource system .
Assets (resources) include all data used and processed by a computer game: geometric models, textures , individual sounds and music tracks , dialog texts, animated data, game AI behavior models, etc. The totality of all assets represents the content of the game, while the game engine is the totality of all the mechanisms that process the content. At the beginning of the 2010s, the number of assets in the average game exceeds 100,000.
