The French and German Star ( The France and Germany Star ) is a military award of Great Britain during the Second World War. The star was established (originally in 1943) on May 8, 1945 on the proposal of Prime Minister Winston Churchill, First Lord of the Treasury and Secretary of Defense at the behest of His Majesty George VI (1936-1952), in honor of the victory of the Allied forces over Germany and its satellites.

The bulk of the awards took place immediately after the end of World War II (September 2, 1945).

This medal was awarded for service in the territory of France , Belgium , Holland or Germany in the period between the “D” day and the capitulation of Germany ( June 6 , 1944 - May 8, 1945 ). The condition for submission to the award was participation in at least one operation (even if the service lasted one day) in the territory of these countries . For military personnel involved in offshore operations under conditions of ground support, the area of operations was determined by the following lines in the north by the Firth of Forth (Scotland), in the east by Kristiansan (Norway), in the south by the English Channel, in the south by the Bay of Biscay (not further 6 ° west longitude from the west coast of France).

This star was not awarded in addition to the Atlantic star and the Star for the air battle for Europe . Therefore, when from the received medals one was worn, obtained earlier than others, a small silver rose was attached to it. Those who qualified for the award of the Atlantic Star, the Star for the air battle for Europe or the French-German star, or two of them, were awarded only to the one to which they had been presented before. Plank "Atlantic" was attached to the instructions of awarding the corresponding star. The second bar was not awarded. Note that the strap "Air Crew Europe" was not worn with this medal.

In the center of the star is placed the monogram of King George VI , surrounded by a ring with a crown above. On the ring is an inscription indicating the name of the award: "THE FRANCE AND GERMANY STAR" ("French-German star"). The reverse side of the coin is flat, like the others in this series. The 1.25- inch- wide ribbon consists of strips of equal width — blue, white, red, white, and blue, symbolizing the colors of the flag of the United Kingdom , as well as flags of France and the Netherlands. The colors of Belgium are not represented (the color range of the ribbon is designed by King George VI). Awards could be nominal (information about the owner from the reverse side) and not. For the most part, the nominal awards belonged to Indian soldiers of the British Indian Army.
