The town hall is located on the Old Market Square in Old Poznań . The modern building was built in the Renaissance style in 1550 - 1560 . designed by architect Giovanni Battista di Quadro . Before this, the old town hall of the end of the 13th century was located here, almost completely destroyed by the fire of 1536 . In 1675, the clock tower was destroyed by lightning , but restored by 1690 , its height was 90 m . However, in 1725 the upper part was destroyed by a hurricane . In 1781 - 1784 reconstruction was carried out, elements of classicism were introduced. In 1910 - 1913 elements of German architecture were brought into the building. [one]
The town hall was a city administrative building until 1939 . In 1945, in the Battle of Poznan, the town hall was seriously damaged. The restoration lasted until the mid -1950s , many of the original features of the Renaissance style were restored to the building. Today Poznan Town Hall is a museum .
