Name Etymology

The village is located at the base of Mount Kazinka (Kazinskaya) [4] [5] , which is why its name is associated [4] .

Geographical position

Distance to the regional center : 63 km.

Distance to the district center : 20 km.

History

The village of Podgornoye ( est. Allmäe - “Under the Mountain” [6] ) was formed in 1868 [7] (in some sources 1863 [4] [5] and 1783 [7] are indicated). It was founded by Estonian immigrants from Estonia and Finland , as well as Russians from the central provinces of the Russian Empire [4] [5] , who appeared here after the Peasant Reform of 1861 (the abolition of serfdom), during the period of intensive settlement of Stavropol [6] .

By the mid-1920s, according to the “List of settlements of the nationalities of the Stavropol District”, 1,192 people lived in Podgorny (all of them are Estonians) [8] .

Monuments

On the territory of the village there is a local history monument - “The grave of the pilot captain Sinyaev, who died in the fight against the Nazis” (1942, 1952) [16] . The remains of Ivan Sergeyevich Sinyaev were buried on January 17, 1943. Above the grave of the pilot (along Tsvetochnaya Street) an obelisk is installed [17] [18] .
