Frankenia ( lat. Frankenia ) is a genus of monotypic plants of the family Frankenia ( Frankeniaceae ), which is included in the order. Pink flowers ( Caryophyllales ).

Content

Botanical description

Annual or perennial grasses , shrubs or bushes . Xerophytes and halophytes , with saline glands. The leaves are opposite, flat or ericoidal [3] .

The flowers are correct, solitary in branch forks or gathered in half-umbrellas. Sepals 4-7, calyx tubular, remaining, serrated. Petals 4-7, pink or purple, rarely white, free or mid-fused. Stamens (3) 5-6 (8) or they are numerous, free or fused at the base. Pestle 1, from (2) 3 (4-5) carpels; thin column; ovary 1-nest, upper, sessile. The fruit is a box with folds that folds into the remaining calyx. Seeds are small, ovate or oblong [3] [4] .

They are found on the coasts of seas and salt lakes in areas with a warm dry and subtropical climate of all continents except Antarctica [3] .
