It is considered not canonical for both series in connection with a number of descriptions of conflicting events.

Story

The first part, "Go South!" ( Eng. Goin 'South ) went on sale in October 1995 [1] . The Linhart Amalgmated discharges toxic waste into the waters of Crystal Lake. Once again, working with waste, employees awaken the famous killer Jason Voorhees. Together with Jason's waste, he finds himself on a train, from which he soon escapes, finding himself in Texas, where Jason meets Leather Face and his family.

The second issue, entitled A Day In Hell, became available in November 1995 [2] . Jason remains with the Sawyer family, where he finds out how they get their own food.

The final release of Mask Down ( Face-Off ) was released in January 1996 [3] . Having stood up for the Leather face, which, as it seemed to Jason, was being terrorized by the Fellow traveler, the maniac from Crystal Lake sets the whole Sawyer family against himself.

Character List

Voorhees:

  • Jason Voorhes
  • Doris Voorhes
  • Elias Voorhes

Sawyers:

  • Bubba " Leatherface " Sawyer ( born Bubba "Leatherface" Sawyer )
  • Nubbins “ The Hitchhiker” Sawyer
  • Drayton “ The Cook” Sawyer

Contradictions

The plot of this series of comics does not fit into the canonical events of the films Friday, 13, nor the Texas Chainsaw Massacre for a number of reasons:

  • In the beginning, Jason was chained to the bottom of Crystal Lake - this happened on June 13, 1990 during the events of the movie “ Friday the 13th: Jason is alive ”. One of the characters, Nabbins Sawyer, whose name is simply Hitchhacker, died on August 19, 1973 during the events of the first movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre . His brother Drayton "Cook," Sawyer, died in September 1986 during the events of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 . According to this, not one of the brothers could be alive during the events of the comics.
  • Jason also recalls his mother Pamela and her husband Elias. For unknown reasons, in the comics, the heroine's name is Doris [4] .

Criticism

The columnist for Adventures In Poor Taste notes that the authors did a good job with the characters in the comic, however, when it comes to action, the impression of the comic is sagging, as the expected battle between maniacs never happens. In addition, the author believes that this work provides a rare and original opportunity for fans to look at the life of the Sawyer family in those periods when they do not pursue their victims, trying to kill them [5] .

A review of the Comic Bastards website indicates that Jason’s character turned out to be uncharacteristic, experiencing psychological problems because of his father ( daddy issues ) - the style of the drawings and the dramaturgy of the story are subject to harsh criticism in the review, which emphasizes another failure of Topps, trying to enter the comic book market in the 1990s [6] .

The review by the author of the site “Friday, The 13th Franchise” turned out to be more flattering - “comics are fun to read”, but it is more addressed to fans of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre series, although comics appear here and there to both franchises [4] . It is also noted that the long-awaited battle of the maniacs turned out not so impressive, but in contrast to the Comic Bastards review, the style of the drawing was rated higher.

Matt Schorr of the Freaking Awesome Network website notes that the “cartoony” style of the drawing harms the series, although the characters are well-written, especially for the Sawyer family and Leather Face, while Jason is portrayed as “empty and unemotional” [7] .
