Friendship Street (Melitopol)

Druzhby Street ( Ukrainian : Vulitsya Druzhby ) is a street in Melitopol . It starts from Bogdan Khmelnitsky Avenue , walks along the mountain along the right bank of the Peschansky Creek, crossing Dachny Lane , Murmansk Lane , Stanislavsky Street , 1st and 2nd Monastyrsky Lanes , descends from the mountain and ends with the intersection with Pavel Sivitsky Street ^[1] .

After the war, the street bore the name of Sholokhov . When in the era of de-Stalinization they stopped calling streets the names of still living people, the street was renamed, and from October 29, 1957 it has been called Druzhba Street. ^[2]

On April 14, 1961, the city executive committee decided to open the city mass library along Druzhby Street and name it after Taras Shevchenko . ^[3]

Most of the street is built up with private residential buildings. There is a high-rise housing estate between Bogdan Khmelnitsky Avenue and Dachny Lane. On the corner of Druzhba Street and Bogdan Khmelnitsky Avenue is a 14-storey building, one of the highest in Melitopol. Until the 1990s, the width of the street in the area of ​​Murmansk Lane exceeded 100 meters, but then the street was built up with private mansions. Here, on November 4, 2002, the mansion of the current mayor of Melitopol (and then the chairman of the City Council) S. G. Walter was assassinated, but only 2 perpetrators of the assassination suffered from the explosion ^[4] .
