Biography
Born in 1909 in St. Petersburg .
Son of M.O. Steinberg , grandson of N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov . He was married to K. A. Meshcherskaya .
He graduated from the Faculty of Biology and Soil of Leningrad State University in 1930.
Since 1931 he worked at the All-Union Institute for Plant Protection, taught at the Department of General Biology of the 2nd Leningrad Medical Institute .
In 1941-1945 he was on the fronts of World War II , having left as a volunteer in the division of the people's militia. [1] At the same time in 1942-1944 he was head of the Department of General Biology of the 2nd Leningrad Medical Institute [2] , which he headed after the death of P. P. Ivanov (1878-1942).
In 1945-1962 he worked at the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences in Leningrad:
- in 1949-1953 - head of an expedition to study the fauna of the steppes of Western Kazakhstan and the deserts of Turkmenistan;
- in 1954-1959 - deputy director of the institute for research;
- since 1960 - head of the laboratory of experimental entomology and the theoretical foundations of the biological control of insect pests and vice-president of the All-Union Entomological Society.
The author of about 40 scientific papers on the taxonomy, morphology and physiology of insects; problems of diapause, cold tolerance and phytoperiodism in insects; biological issues in the fight against pests.
He died in 1962 in Leningrad .
