The most ancient is considered to be a branch dating back to the Novgorod Zemsky judge, Joseph Ivanovich Golovna. The descendants of his two sons Krishtof (Christopher) and Jan (Ivan) were recorded in the noble family trees of the books of the Lithuanian-Vilnius and Minsk provinces [1] .
It is known about the life and work of the founder of this branch of the Golovny clan that at the end of 1564 - early 1565 at the military congress of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, Russian and Zhemaiti, which took place in Mensk (Minsk), Esif (Joseph, Józef) Ivanovich Golovnya was elected as a candidate for the post of clerk novogorodskogo (Novogrudok) Zemsky Court, and was appointed to the position called Sigismund Augustus 30 April 1565 [2] During the second half of 1567, he was appointed to a higher position podsudka as part of the same novogorodskogo (Novogrudok) zemskog court. Esif Golovnya is mentioned in this position on January 1, 1568. [3] After the death of Sigismund Augustus in the second half of 1573, Esif Golovnya served as a member of the Capture Court created by the decision of the Novy Novgorod Seymic [4] , and participated in the meeting of the main congress in 1576. ON in Grodno (8-20.IV.1576) [5] . In the wagon train near Polotsk on August 15, 1579, the first dumpling ordinate Olbracht Radiwill (1558 - † 13 VII 1592) called E. Golovnya his friend [6] . March 26, 1580 in Grodno, Stefan Batory appointed E. Golovnya to the vacant post of the Novgorod Zemsky judge [7] . On March 12, 1586, the Vilnius governor and full hetman Krishtof Radivil, in a letter to the Vilnius Bishop Cardinal Yuri Radivil, called Esif Golovnya their mutual friend [8] . In 1587, after the death of Stefan Batory and before the coronation of Sigismund Vazy, Esif Golovnya again sat in the composition of the Novgorod Captura court [9] . In May 1587, he was elected one of the 6 ambassadors of the Novogorodsky District to the Warsaw Electoral Diet. He participated in the meetings of the Main Congress of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania in Vilna from November 8 to 17, 1587, as ambassador of the Seymic of the Novogorodsky district and voted for the election of Archduke Maximilian of Habsburg by the Grand Duke of Lithuania, Russia and Zemait [10] . In February - March 1596 he put up for participation in a military operation against the Cossacks Severin Nalyvayki mails consisting of 50 horsemen and 30 foot soldiers [11] . He owned estates in Oshmyany, Novogorodsky, Mensky districts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. May 13, 1577 in Brodnitsy received from Stefan Batory the right to “a free inn in his udder Lipovsky ... nearby the river. Ears, quick to the great road that goes from Nesvizh to Iskolti ”(LM 58. Ll. 269-269 vol.). He exchanged the estate of Lipa for the estate of Zadway, previously owned by Nicholas Krishtof Radiwill Sirotka [12] . In 1588, Esif Golovnya exchanged the Khotaevichi estate in the Mensky district for the estates of Studenka and Dreams, which belonged to Barbara Yanovna (Klochkovna) Snovskaya, the widow of the Vitebsk coughman Malher Zhigimontovich Snovsky Gravzh [13] . Protestant. In 1588, it is referred to as the “patrolman and obrontsa” of the New-Town Calvin Cathedral [14] . Esif (Joseph) Ivanovich Golovnya died in 1598 (until July 9) [15] . The sources mention the wives of Yefif Ivanovich: Yadviga Mikolaevna Biyutevskaya (up. March 9, 1571, July 28, 1579) [16] and Dorota Sakovichovna (up. July 11, 1602 [17]
Children of Esif Ivanovich Golovni: 1) Mikolay, Novogorodsky khory (elected candidate for the position on February 20, 1594, appointed to the position on March 1, 1595 - † until August 1600), wife Barbara (Soltan); 2) Yuri (Jerzy), Novogorodsky funeral (appointed to the post August 16, 1600 - † until November 3, 1627), wife of Regina (Kovechinskaya); 3) Krishtof (up. After the death of E. Golovni, until October 21, 1602, the estates were jointly owned by his sons - Mikolai (Nikolai), the Novogorodsky clergyman († until August 1600), Yuri, Jan and Krishtof. On October 21, 1602, the estates were divided between Yuri (Jim), Jan and Krishtof [18] . [nineteen]
Another branch, originating from Yarosh and Venedikt Nikolaevich Golovnya , has been bearing the surname Golovnya-Cherny since 1659 and is recorded in the VI part of the genealogy books of Minsk [20] and Kiev provinces.
The third branch has a pedigree from the very beginning of the XVIII century, recorded in the first part of the DRC of the Vilnius and Coven provinces.
Several genera of Golovny of unknown origin, by their own merits, were recognized in the Russian nobility and recorded in the second part of the genealogy books of the Chernigov, Poltava and Stavropol provinces.
